Volunteer

We want to maintain our beautiful park, and continue to build a vibrant and welcoming community and we need your help!

Can you spare a few hours, a few days? Perhaps you work for a company that has staff volunteering days and supports local initiatives? There are lots of ways to support us.

We would really love to hear your ideas and get you involved.

Would you like to be notified directly about specific gardening or other volunteering opportunities?

Click here to sign up to our volunteers list (NOTE: This list will ONLY be used to contact you about specific volunteering activities. It will NOT be used for general communications by Friends of Newlands Park).

You can also email us: volunteer@friendsofnewlandspark.org

Let us know what you are interested in, and provide us with your email address and/or phone number in order to be added to our list of volunteers. There is no need to make a regular commitment, just join us when you can.

The Wednesday morning gardening group usually carries out routine tasks such as weeding and planting.  Its a very friendly group and no gardening skills are required, and as long as you are able to pull out a few weeds, you will be very welcome.

The Saturday ‘hit squad’ is also open to everyone. We particularly welcome those who are able to tackle some of the heavier tasks, but there are always lighter chores too.

Gardening

If you enjoy getting out into the fresh air and have some time to spare, why not join our friendly bunch of gardeners? Currently, volunteers meet every Wednesday and some Saturday mornings. Times vary, so do check first if you plan on joining them. Come along as little or often as you like, theres always tasks to be done.

If you have a particular expertise, e.g. a way with roses, or a love of growing from seed, we would love to learn from you.

Anyone can join in, you don’t need to be an expert gardener as there will always be someone that can show you what to do. We have plenty of tools, we just need you!

Other ideas

Theres always lots to do, and its not all outdoors. We need a diversity of skills and it needn’t be a big commitment.

For example, our annual fete is always very popular, and relies on a lot of people to make it a success. You can get involved in the planning or just by helping out on the day.

We are also open to suggestions for other activities in the park, big or small. Perhaps you would  like to organise a fun activity for children? A talk on the flora and wildlife? A social event for older members of the community?
