About us

Friends of Newlands Park is a Voluntary Association formed in January 2020 by local residents. Our purpose to improve the quality of Newlands Park and its facilities so that all its users and wildlife can continue to enjoy the benefits of what has been described as “one of Glasgow’s more beautiful, small parks”.

It does this by:

  • Working together as local residents and park users, regardless of age, ethnic origin, ability, gender, belief or political affiliation and recognising the value of our many differences
  • Involving local people and other interested parties in improving Newlands Park.
  • Carrying out and promoting environmental improvement and practical conservation, educating, encouraging and supporting people in environmental practice by working with statutory and non-statutory agencies
  • Promoting greenspace, heritage, biodiversity, community recreation, sport, and play facilities.
  • Raising funds and receiving contributions to finance its work.

Our constitution and other relevant documents can be found on this page.

Please note that Glasgow City Council is responsible for overall maintenance of the park, e.g. grass cutting, path repairs, emptying litter bins, dog fouling, removing graffiti, etc. If you have any concerns concerning the areas for which the Council is responsible, please contact them via this page on their website.

Our annual fete

Our summer fete takes place in early September and is a great way to bring the many visitors of the park together. Check out some great photos and a video of our 2023 fete here.

History of the Park

Newlands Park was gifted to the people of Glasgow in 1913 by Sir John Stirling Maxwell who also gifted Pollok Country Park to the City.
