Tennis

The tennis courts at Newlands Park are almost 100 years old and have always been well used despite the infrastructure declining over recent years. The Friends of Newlands Park community have worked hard to maintain the courts whilst planning how they might deliver a new community asset.

In 2023, with support from People Make Glasgow Communities, the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), Tennis Scotland and Glasgow City Council, a grant of £146,000 was provided from the UK Government and LTA Tennis Foundation’s Park Tennis Project to refurbish the facilities.

There are now four outdoors all weather courts, available all year round. The courts are wheelchair accessible. All courts are available to book by members and non-members on a first come, first served basis.

The newly refurbished courts

The facilities are now being run by the Newlands Park Community Tennis Centre (NPCTC), a not for profit Community Interest Group set up specifically for this purpose and run completely by volunteers.

NPCTC have their own website and also publish regular updates on their Instagram, Facebook and Twitter accounts (all @NewlandsParkCTC).

Courts are available to book every day, either for a minimal fee (£6/hr) or for free (off peak). Access to the courts is controlled by a keypad and all sessions must be booked.

Affordable annual memberships are available on an household/family (£49 p/a) or individual basis (adult £39 p/a & junior £29 p/a), allowing ‘fair use’ free booking at any time.

For more information, and to book the courts, visit the NPCTC website or use the LTA’s Clubspark Booker app, available on Apple and Android platforms (search for ‘clubspark booker’).

NPCTC are committed to making the tennis courts accessible to all, and free sessions will always be available. They will also be scheduling free coaching and community engagement events.

They plan to work with local organisations and schools to ensure everyone can gain access to the park’s wonderful new facility. This will include organising tennis and coaching for individuals and groups with additional support needs and mental ill health. Contact NPCTC for details.
